i’ve decided to start on a project of decorating my sad, blank wall in my bedroom. i have always been attracted to maps, maybe because i always imagined that i would live in many places throughout life. i am thinking about collecting pieces that reflect places i’ve lived and places i aspire to live. i’ve managed to live in DC/NYC/ATL/KNOXVEGAS in a handful of years. where will i be next?

the change of summer into fall was very apparent this past week though i don’t think the weather has made up its mind yet. cool nights and some warm days are tripping up my fashion decisions. one thing to look forward to: hot soup and chunky sweaters.

some documentation as of late. sometimes i forget that i’m such a lucky girl: lots of concerts and food adventures all wrapped up into one.

first time visiting san fran and of course the trip consisted of much eating. gotta say, west coast stylee is more my style. washington is a bit too buttoned up for me. where else can you find chewbacca and a pop-up dubstep concert in the park? certainly not in our nation’s capital.

for now, it’ll do, but as i’ve said before, i’m leading quite the transient lifestyle.

yah yah, i went and you know what? not that impressed.

a little belated, but had a celebratory feast a few weekends ago when my college roomies all reunited (and it felt so good). now spread out all over the country and no longer in our creaky college home, we felt like it was an appropriate time get together and EAT. and of course, sight see, drink, and whatnot.

first stop was good stuff eatery on capitol hill and boy, it was a good decision. no pictures because we were all too busy devouring spike’s sunnyside burgers and village fries. we even saw the chef himself, spike mendelsohn. i was thrilled when he gave me a half-smile and then stepped on my friend’s foot (she’s pictured here clutching a milk shake. she was thrilled as well).

the weekend was just right (just like the food!) and our next tentative reunion is set for san francisco where i hear they have great sun and of course great food.

lately i’ve been horribly slacking on home cooking. not planning my meals means impulse buying, resulting in a lot of frozen burritos and pasta bowls from trader joe’s. so i’m making an effort to plan ahead and aspire to wonderfully tasty food cooked at home.

so just a short, reflective post: i’ve worked tirelessly to become employed and now i’m pseudo-employed. this is pretty much what i’ve wanted for a long time and of course, somehow, i have already become restless and have recurring thoughts of living in spain and taking cooking lessons for a bit. we’ll see how this goes as i change my mind daily about the “future”.

apologies i don’t have any cool pics, will try harder to remember to charge my camera. check out teen spirit nyc in the meantime, a throwback to 90s music…ah, the life back then!

birthday bash

so this past week i became the pretty un-pivotal age of 23. i thought the wise thing to do was to reflect on my post college time, almost a year since i graduated. but all my birthday festivities really just consisted of drinking and eating (as most celebrations should be about food and drink).

kasteel rougue, one of my favorite beers. very hard to find on tap, which is the only way to drink it! luckily it’s on the regular beer menu at brasserie beck.

have you ever had fricassee?? i hadn’t ever and i still am not quite sure what it is, but this fricassee was de.li.cious. highly recommended!! and pretty reasonable at beck!

i reflect on my life most days when i stroll to work any way.

dc restaurant week

oh restaurant week, i am thankful you are only a week because i would be many pounds overweight. i had a lovely lunch at ceiba, a latin american restaurant. so many choices! i finally settled on the following (apologies on the blurry pictures, i was in a hurry to eat):

shrimp cocktail ceviche

beef short rib enchiladas

warm cinnamon churros with chocolate dip

i managed to eat about 90% of this. needless to say, after lunch i almost fell asleep at my desk several times.

so i frequent the food blog budget bytes pretty regularly because not only do i love good food, i love making great food and keeping $$ in my pocket. so tonight i was inspired and so i decided to make spinach lasagna rolls which is on the front of her homepage at this moment. rarely do i go outside my normal dinner routine of take out and box pasta. can i just take a moment and show you how legit this dinner was?

i was feeling pretty confident at this point

here, i was convinced that i was about to make a master piece of a dinner
